asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of dance-halls in the County Borough of Dublin including the built-up area immediately surrounding it, (b) how many of these sought occasional licences in each of the last five years, (c) the names of each of the dancehalls that secured such a licence, and (d) if he will state in respect of each ballroom the total number of such licences granted in each of the last five years.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dance-hall Occasional Licences.
Apart from ballrooms attached to licensed hotels or licensed restaurants, in respect of which the question of occasional licences does not arise, there are 45 premises licensed for public dancing in the area comprising the County Borough of Dublin and the Dublin Metropolitan District.
Of the 45, a total of six were concerned in applications for occasional licences at some time since 1st January, 1958. Details are given in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report. The premises concerned are not identified by name as it would be contrary to practice to publish officially the names of parties concerned in Court proceedings.
Following is the statement:—
OCCASIONAL licences in respect of premises licensed for public dancing (excluding ballrooms attached to licensed hotels or licensed restaurants) in the County Borough of Dublin and the Dublin Metropolitan Division, since 1st January, 1958

Is the Minister aware of the number of unlicensed dancehalls in Dublin?
The question refers only to licensed dancehalls.
It refers to dancehalls.
It refers to premises for which occasional licences may be granted and in that context I took it the question referred to licences for public dancing.
There are quite a number of unlicensed premises and the reason I raise the matter is to let the Minister know.
