Vol. 197 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unmillable Wheat.

69.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether in view of the wholesale rejection of wheat as unmillable by the flour millers he proposes to establish for the coming season an independent system of wheat testing, operating under the aegis of the Agricultural Institute.

I do not propose to make arrangements as suggested. There is already in existence a Central Wheat Laboratory for the purpose of testing samples in cases of dispute as to millability. This Laboratory is operated under an agreement between the National Farmers' Association and the Irish Flour Millers' Association and its impartiality can hardly be questioned.

Will the House agree to finish the Questions addressed to the Minister for Agriculture?

Will we go on with Questions until 5 o'clock?

I think we should finish with the Minister for Agriculture. We will give extra time for Questions tomorrow.

May I direct the Taoiseach's attention to the fact that there are 229 Questions for oral answer on the Order Paper?

And 30 on tomorrow's Order Paper. I propose that we take Questions at 2 o'clock tomorrow. That would be more suitable because I took it on myself to advise Ministers that Questions would not be likely to go beyond those addressed to the Minister for Agriculture.

So long as we have ample time tomorrow.

We will have time tomorrow.
