Vol. 197 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cow Plots.

266.

asked the Minister for Local Government the statutory authority under which county councils may provide cow plots.

Section 4 of the Irish Land Act, 1903, as amended by Section 18 of the Irish Land Act, 1909, provides inter alia, that a county council may purchase for the purpose of turbary, pasturage, etc., any portion of an estate which is being sold and may act as trustee for those purposes. Section 40 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1931, as amended by Section 27 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950, enables local authorities to acquire land which would serve a beneficial purpose in connection with the requirements of persons for whom housing accommodation is provided.
