Vol. 197 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Grants and Loans.

41.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in view of the possibility of this country's acceding to the terms of the Rome Treaty he proposes in the near future to introduce legislation removing the distinction for industrial grant and loan purposes between undeveloped areas and the remainder of the country.

A review has been undertaken of the original concept of the undeveloped areas and the industrial grants scheme and I have already announced my intention of bringing before the Dáil such proposals for the amendment of existing legislation as may seem desirable following the review. I am not prepared at this stage to say what changes may be proposed. I am not aware of any distinction for industrial loan purposes between undeveloped areas and the remainder of the country.

Will the Minister say whether the legislation will be introduced before the House adjourns for Christmas?

Certainly.
