Vol. 197 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Life Assurance Premiums for Children.

45.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will take steps to increase the premium payable in respect of a child under ten years of age whose life is assured in accordance with the terms of the Insurance Act, 1936, so that the sum payable on death will be sufficient to meet present-day burial expenses.

I had intended to deal with this matter in the proposed legislation to amend the Insurance Acts. I have considered it advisable, however, to postpone preparation of a new Insurance Bill because it will probably be necessary for us in any event to amend our insurance legislation on entering the European Economic Community. When revision of the insurance legislation is undertaken, the matter referred to by the Deputy will be attended to.
