Vol. 197 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bank Security Arrangements.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department have been consulted as to whether the reported new security arrangements regarding strong-room safes in banks are sufficient to enable persons to obtain insurance against the possible theft or larceny of goods lodged in these safes; and, if so, what has been the outcome of such consultation.

No consultation has taken place with my Department. I might add that this is a matter in which I have no function.

Would the Minister not agree that in fact restrictive practices are carried out by most insurance companies and that the fact that there is no free competition might be a subject for investigation by his Department?

That is a separate issue altogether.
