Vol. 197 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullaroan (Kilkenny) Dispensary Medical Officer.

8.

asked the Minister for Health the reasons for the delay in the appointment of a permanent medical officer in the Tullaroan Dispensary District, County Kilkenny; and at what date it is proposed to make such an appointment.

The appointment of a permanent district medical officer in the Tullaroan dispensary district has been held up as the desirability of reorganising dispensary districts in the area has been under consideration.

There are only 377 persons eligible for general medical services in the Tullaroan dispensary district. This is a very small quota for a district medical officer and I asked the Health Authority to examine the possibility of reorganising dispensary districts in the area with a view to affording some relief to the district medical officers in the Kilkenny Nos. 1 and 2 dispensary districts who have large numbers of eligible persons in their districts.

The Health Authority have recently given me their observations in the matter and I have them under consideration.

I hope to be in a position to convery my decision to the Health Authority at an early date.
