Vol. 197 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Motor Vehicles at Rosslare Harbour.

65.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will consider expanding the facilities for the transport of motor vehicles at Rosslare Harbour, County Wexford in the interests of the tourist industry in this country.

Certain improvements for passenger traffic have been carried out at Rosslare at the instance of Bord Fáilte and my Department, but the scope for expansion of facilities at the pier for the transport of motor vehicles is very strictly limited by the physical characteristics of the terminal. This has not, however, prevented an increase in the number of tourists' cars coming through Rosslare, which in 1961 was some 30 per cent. above the 1960 figure, and more than 75 per cent. above the figure for 1957.

Is it true that the Minister is going to close Rosslare?

I have no intention of doing so.

Would the Minister repeat what he said to Deputy Lynch?

I have no intention of closing Rosslare.

Would the Minister say if he has any information on it?

I have no information.

Would the Minister say if there was an inspection made, with a view to closing it?

Not by me.

Not necessarily by the Minister, who would send men down there.
