Vol. 197 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Tipperary Lands.

73.

asked the Minister for Lands the amount of land in North Tipperary (a) acquired and not allotted, (b) for which acquisition proceedings are in hand, and (c) which it is proposed to acquire in the coming twelve months; if he will indicate the names and locations of the various lands; and when it is expected that they will be finally allotted.

Land Commission records are not compiled by reference to constituency areas. However, in the case of County Tipperary, it is possible to segregate fairly readily the statistics required as between the North and South Ridings of the county.

For County Tipperary NR, the information requested—in so far as it is available—is set out in tabular statements which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

Following are the statements:—

(a) Particulars of lands—apart from turbary and small residues of allotted estates— acquired for allotment in County Tipperary NR.

(1) In addition, an aggregate area of approximately 300 acres has been transferred to the Land Commission by way of exchanges.

(2) It is not yet possible to indicate when the individual estates mentioned will be allotted but the necessary local enquiries preliminary to allotment are being pushed forward as circumstances permit.

(b) Lands at present the subject of compulsory acquisition proceedings in County Tipperary, NR.

NOTE — In addition negotiations are at various stages for voluntary purchase of 7 properties aggregating 578 acres but for the present details thereof must be treated as confidential.

(c) The question as to what lands will be taken over by the Land Commission in any future period necessarily depends on the progress made in connection with acquisition proceedings and voluntary purchase negotiations. The degree of progress is likely to vary from one property to another, and a reliable forecast is not practicable.
