Vol. 197 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Leaving Age.

35.

asked the Minister for Education what steps are at present being taken in his Department in order to make possible the raising of the school leaving age to fifteen years in the near future.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies in regard to this matter given on 27th January, 1959 and 19th February, 1958. I have nothing to add to these replies except to say that since 1958 the number of pupils attending secondary schools has increased from 66,221 to 80,400 and the number attending day courses in vocational schools from 24,638 to 27,150.
