Vol. 197 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Air Crash Rescuers.

58.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he is aware that a number of Limerick men who aided in the recovery of the bodies of the victims of the air crash at Shannon in September, 1961, suffered the loss of the clothing which they were wearing at the time; and whether he will take steps to ensure that the men involved receive compensation for the loss of this clothing.

I am arranging that appropriate compensation will be issued to-day to the Limerick Harbour Commissioners for distribution to the men concerned.

When does the Minister intend making compensation, seeing that this matter has been in abeyance since September, 1961? Is the Minister aware the Limerick Harbour Commissioners made this recommendation as long ago as nine months? Is he further aware that, because of his niggardly approach to these four men, from now on the same co-operation will not be given by employees of the Limerick Harbour Commissioners in any further accidents that may occur at Shannon Airport?

That is a very bad thing to say.

It is true.

The Deputy is quite wrong in everything he says.

Question No. 59.

I want an answer to my question.

He gave it in his original reply—he said "today".

Let the Minister say it himself.

He said it, if the Deputy will only listen.

Keep cool. There are enough Communists——

The Deputy might take his own advice and keep cool.
