Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Local Government Employees' Working Week.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is his intention to introduce a five-day week for all local government employees.

So far as local authority employees in respect of whom I am the appropriate Minister are concerned, the introduction of a five-day week is a matter within the discretion of each local authority. So far as local authority officers are concerned, consideration of the introduction of a five-day week would be a matter for the local authorities concerned in the first instance.

Does the Minister agree with the principle of the five-day week?

I have not been asked that.

I am asking now.

I am not answering.
