Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Food Relief Vouchers.

44.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether is he aware that in many cases the amount of the food relief voucher paid to unemployed persons is reduced in the week in which children's allowances are payable in respect of the unemployed person's children by the amount of the children's allowance; and if he will state the reasons for this practice.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to vouchers issued by public assistance authorities. I am not aware of any case in which the value of the voucher has been reduced on account of the payment of children's allowance.

Am I to take it that if the Minister is made aware of this, he will put it right?

If the Deputy gives me an instance, I shall investigate it.

The Minister does not agree with the practice?

I do not think it exists.

And the Minister thinks it should not exist?

As far as I am aware, it does not exist.

And it should not exist?

If the Deputy supplies me with any case of which he is aware, I shall investigate it.
