asked the Minister for Lands (a) the amount of land acquired for forestry in the past year, (b) the amount in the course of acquisition, (c) the amount offered to his Department in the south-west Cork area, and (d) the amount of employment given by his Department in south-west Cork.

In the 12 months ended 30th September, 1962, the Forestry Division of my Department acquired a gross total area of 33,567 acres for afforestation purposes. At a recent date prices had been agreed and title was being cleared in respect of areas totalling 39,000 acres.

The total area at present on offer in south-west Cork is 12,632 acres and the number of men currently employed at the forests in the area is 247.
