Vol. 198 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Irish Ship in Holland.

22.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state with regard to the Irish Plane, which was launched in Holland on 20th November, the total cost of this ship, and the reasons why the building of it was not undertaken in Ireland.

It was originally intended that the Irish Plane would be built at the Verolme Cork Dockyard and the contract for the vessel was placed on this basis. Subsequently, in order to allow the Cork Dockyard to take advantage of an order from a foreign shipping company for the construction of a larger vessel, Irish Shipping Ltd. agreed to the transfer of the order for the Irish Plane to the Verolme United Shipyards in Holland.

It is not the policy of Irish Shipping Ltd. to disclose the purchase price of individual ships.
