Vol. 198 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants to State and Semi-State Bodies.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of his statement of 15th November that while the making of grants to State or semi-State bodies is not precluded by statute, he was of opinion that the benefits of the Acts should continue to be confined to private enterprise, he will state his reasons for considering that such grants should not be given to State or semi-State bodies.

The manner in which State-sponsored bodies are financed is set out in the various Acts establishing these bodies, i.e. State guaranteed loans; repayable grants from the Exchequer; State guaranteed stock issues; and by way of special grants provided for in the Departments annual Estimates. These arrangements, in my opinion, adequately provide for the financing of State-sponsored bodies.
