Vol. 198 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Partition and Military Alliances.

asked the Taoiseach whether he accepts, as representing the present policy of the Government, the position set out in the Aide Memoire handed to the American Ambassador on the 8th February, 1949, by the Minister for External Affairs on behalf of the then Government that, because of the continued partition of Ireland, any military alliance with, or commitment involving military action jointly with, the State that is responsible for the unnatural division of Ireland, which occupies a portion of this country with its armed forces, and which supports undemocratic institutions in the north-eastern corner of Ireland, would be entirely repugnant and unacceptable to the Irish people.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a similar Question in this House on the 14th February last.
