Vol. 198 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tea Supplies.

8.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state the stocks of tea in the country; whether supplies of tea have been, or are expected to be, affected by the recent military operations in India; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

The stocks of tea in this country or in transit at present are approximately 14/15 million lbs. which represents about 7 months' supply. This is normal for this time of the year. Supplies of tea have not been affected by the recent military operations in India and the effect on future supplies will depend on developments. The position will be kept under review.
