Vol. 198 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vested Cottage Rent Reductions.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, county by county, the percentage reduction in rent allowance to persons who vest their local authority cottages.

It would not be possible to compile the information requested by the Deputy from the records of the Department. The annuity fixed in respect of cottages included in purchase schemes made prior to 1951 was generally 75 per cent. of the rent. In purchase schemes made since that date the annuity is normally 50 per cent. of the rent where the cottages are let at fixed rents. Where cottages are let at differential or graded rents, the most common practice is to relate the annuity to the economic rent of the dwellings.
