Vol. 198 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kilkenny Road Grants.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the possibility of the closure of railway lines and stations in County Kilkenny, and the likelihood of increased heavy traffic on roads not designed to bear such traffic resulting from the closures, he will immediately make available substantially increased finance for the purpose of adapting and improving the roads in the county.

I am not aware that the volume of extra traffic on the Kilkenny roads as a result of the announced branch line and station closings will give rise to any road problems which cannot be dealt with out of the council's existing Road Fund Grants, which in the current year amount to £203,000 approximately.
