Vol. 198 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Duties of High Court Judges.

84.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state, with reference to the allocation to a High Court Judge of duties appertaining to jury trials and the swearing-in of juries, by whom the allocation of duties is made and their duration.

The duties referred to by the Deputy are part of the business of the High Court.

In accordance with section 10 (3) of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961, the distribution and allocation of the business of the High Court is the function of the President of the High Court or, where he is not available, the senior ordinary Judge of the High Court who is for the time being available.
