Vol. 198 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 3 and 11—Votes 45, 45 and 23. As Deputies are aware, Motions Nos. 42, 48 and 49 are being taken in conjunction with Vote 45. Private Members' Business will be taken from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

Has the Taoiseach any further statement to make on the business to be taken this session and the probable date of adjournment?

Before the Taoiseach deals with that, No. 18—the Estimate for Law Charges—will be taken with No. 6. There will be no separate discussion?

No separate discussion. I was about to make that announcement when the Deputy intervened.

There may be a separate decision, but there will be no separate discussion.

The same discussion will cover both. As regards business for the rest of the session, there are, of course, the Estimates on the Order Paper and Supplementary Estimates for Forestry and the New York World Fair. There may be one for nitrogenous fertilisers. I can state the final decision regarding it on Thursday. There are the Army Pensions Bills, the Trade Marks Bill, the Copyright Bill and the Sugar Manufacture (Amendment) Bill which is being introduced today. There is the Second Stage of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Bill, the motion on Double Taxation and motions relating to Defence Regulations, which have been circulated, and I think a motion about summer-time. I think it should be possible for the Dáil to adjourn on December 13th, that is, Thursday week. If this business is completed, we propose to adjourn until 22nd January, 1963.

Might I direct the attention of the Taoiseach to the fact that we are coming back on 22nd January and we would view with dismay a proposal to introduce a further Supplementary Estimate in regard to nitrogenous fertilisers prior to the Second Reading of the appropriate legislation which the Taoiseach and the Minister have forecast, because the introduction of that Bill may, I think, provide the Minister with the occasion of giving certain detailed information which, I gather from a Press report, is already in the hands of certain vocational bodies like the National Farmers' Association. Would the Taoiseach bear that in mind?

There will not be a Supplementary Estimate unless it is necessary.

The Taoiseach will bear in mind that it is also necessary the House should be fully informed before it is asked to vote public money. It has not been so informed, though I understand the Minister has been able to give certain information to the vocational bodies interested in this matter.

If it becomes necessary to introduce a Supplementary Estimate, I will give the Deputy all the information possible.

Does the Taoiseach intend to introduce any new Bills before the adjournment or are we to resume on an unfinished agenda?

I expect there will be quite a number of new Bills introduced. I forgot to mention a Bill which will be introduced tomorrow, and one which we hope to pass in this session, that is, the Bill amending the Deputies' allowances legislation.
