Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchases of Reactor Cows.

asked the Minister for Agriculture (a) the total number of reactor cows bought by his Department in County Limèrick during the period 1st October to 30th November, inclusive, (b) the average price paid per animal, (c) what means of transport was utilised to carry them to the factory, and (d) the total cost of transporting them.

(a) The number of reactor cows purchased was 3,517, (b) the average price paid per animal was £59, (c) and (d) the arrangements for transporting the cows to the factory, and the cost of transport are entirely the responsibility of the firm which holds the current contract for the slaughter of reactor cows purchased by my Department in County Limerick, and I am not accordingly in a position to give the information requested.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of reactor cows bought by his Departmen in County Limerick between 1st October and 31st October, inclusive, for which payment was still outstanding on 30th November.

Payment was still outstanding on 30th November for 30 reactor cows. Payment has since been made on 19 of these cows and payment for the remaining 11 cows will be made at the earliest possible date.
