Vol. 198 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of Flour Mills.

18.

andMr. Governey asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the compensation payable to the owners of the six flour mills about to be closed and to the workers at present employed in those mills will be recouped by an increase in the price of flour.

While the proposed arrangements for the compensation of the proprietors and employees of the flour mills concerned were made by the milling industry itself, I have been given to understand that the funds required will be provided partly from the millers' existing funds and partly from the a levy on future profits of the industry and will represent no charge to the flour and bread consumer.

Has the Minister the amounts of the compensation to be paid to both owners and workers?

I have not.
