Vol. 198 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Television Transmitter.

26.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will indicate when work in connection with the television booster station for Cork and Kerry will be completed.

28.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he can indicate the cause of the delay in erecting the masts for the Cork television station.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 26 and 28 together.

In referring to the television booster station for Cork and Kerry, I assume that the Deputy means the television transmitter at Mullaghanish, County Cork. As I indicated in my reply to Deputies on 31st October last, the Authority had hoped to have this provincial transmitter in operation by the end of the year. I understand, however, that some delay in supplying aerial equipment may result in a deferment until early in the New Year.

27.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if an Irish firm was prepared to complete part of the installation work on the Cork television station by September, 1962; if they did not get the contract because this deadline was unsatisfactory; and if an Italian firm got the contract instead and cannot fulfil it until early 1963.

I presume the Deputy refers to the provision of the micro wave links between the television transmitters which was put out to tender by my Department. The contract was awarded to the firm which satisfied the Department's requirements as to specification, delivery and price. The tender of an Irish firm did not meet these requirements.
