asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applications for telephones on hands from (1) Dublin city and (2) the rest of the country, the number of telephones being installed monthly, and the number of applications received each month.

The figures requested in the first part of the question are (1) 4,300 and (2) 5,100 approximately. Based on figures since 1st April last, the answers to the second part of the question are 1,320 and 1,220 on average respectively. The latter figure represents gross demand. Experience has shown that effective demand is about 8 per cent ess.
