Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Disposal Company Creameries.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for a final offer of the Dairy Disposal Company creameries to be made to the farmers; or, alternatively, if he intends that the Dairy Disposal Company should remain as a permanent organisation; and if he will ensure that farmers are represented on the creamery committees.

The Dairy Disposal Company, Limited, has been there for some 35 years and during all this time it was open to consider genuine offers from producers' co-operatives for the purchase of its creamery groups. A point in time has now been reached where it is desirable to decide whether this concern should be regarded merely as a disposal body or as a progressive public undertaking devoting itself permanently to the development of the Irish dairying industry and of Irish agriculture in general. In order to make the position clear and to enable the company to know where it stands in relation to the planning of further development work, I may say that my conclusion is that the company is here to stay as a permanent development body.
