Vol. 198 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearcross (Tipperary) Letter Deliveries

42.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the late delivery of letters to Rearcross Post Office, County Tipperary: and if he will take steps to ensure early delivery.

Because of its location, the mails service to Rearcross could not be accelerated except at a cost out of all proportion to the small volume of correspondence involved. In any event, the present standard compares well with that afforded in other similar areas.

Would the Minister not agree that a Post Office van delivers mail from Limerick to a district within seven miles of Rearcross and could this van not continue as far as Rearcross?

I do not think so. The service at Rearcross would involve a mail contract service and an extension of it would mean considerable additional expenditure.

Could the Limerick mail car not serve Rearcross?

I do not think so.
