Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Telephone Applications.

55.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applications in respect of telephone installations for County Donegal; when the present backlog will be cleared; and when an applicant who has applied since 1st January should expect to have service.

There are about 280 applications for telephones in County Donegal. It is hoped to clear about 170 of them within the next six months and the majority of the others by the end of the year. It is not possible to say when an unspecified recent applicant could expect service.

Could we take it that it would be three years?

You can take nothing of that kind for granted.

Is the Minister aware that up to now it has taken three years.

Not for all applicants.

For 98 per cent. of them?

It might be of interest to the Deputy to know that 14,800 new exchange lines were installed in 1962 and we still have a waiting list because of the fact that there were 15,600 new applicants in the year 1962.

And some of whom will get service immediately.

And will continue to get service immediately.

Can the Minister indicate when Deputies will get their telephone lines out of this House?
