Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Reception in Cork.

58.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that contour difficulties prevent many Cork City television viewers from receiving a satisfactory picture; and if he will request the Television Authority to provide directional relays to ensure a good service to all viewers.

The provision of a satisfactory television service for viewers in Cork city is the responsibility of the Broadcasting Authority and I have no function in the matter.

I am aware that reception is not good in parts of the city and I understand that a team of engineers from the Authority is at present in Cork investigating the position.

As the Deputy probably knows, apart from contour difficulties, the permanent mast at Mullaghanish has not yet been erected and the transmitter is not operating at full power.

The remaining Questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
