asked the Minister for Finance the present position in relation to the proposed fishery harbour scheme at Galway.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Fishery Harbour.
The Commissioners of Public Works are proceeding with the engineering investigation of Stage I of the scheme recommended by the Swedish harbours consultant which has been approved by the Government. These investigations necessitate trial borings on the site as well as examination of the project in a hydraulic model. Work on these is proceeding but the final reports will not be available for about three months yet. Only then can the detailed design of the scheme proceed and that in turn will take several months. The Deputy will appreciate that, until the design has been completed, I cannot say exactly when construction works can be started.
Can the Minister indicate whether it will take as long as the major harbour scheme has taken—20 years?
