Vol. 199 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pig Fattening Stations.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, since a recent reply, he has further considered the setting-up of pig-fattening stations so as to give small farmers a guaranteed market for bonhams; or if he has considered the encouragement of the setting-up of such stations by grant or loan, or otherwise.

As indicated in my previous reply, I have encouraged such enterprises in various ways, for example, by increased piggery grants, technical assistance and, in suitable cases, guarantees In respect of loans from the Agricultural Credit Corporation. Market guarantees are provided in respect of fat pigs of suitable grades delivered to bacon factories.
