Vol. 199 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Cotton Yarn.

19.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is now in a position to indicate the result of his recent discussion with the President of the British Board of Trade on the export of cotton yarn from this country to Great Britain.

I have agreed with the President of the Board of Trade that exports of cotton yarn to Great Britain will be restricted to 2¾ million lbs. for the next 12 months. The arrangement will be subject to review at the end of that period or earlier if there should be a change in circumstances which would make such a review desirable.

Would the Minister say what reduction that represents in the current rate of exports?

I have not got that information but it is a rate higher than that which would have been imposed unilaterally by the British Government.

Will the information be available if I put down a question?

I am sure the Minister for Industry and Commerce will be able to deal with that.
