Vol. 199 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Piped Water Supplies.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the date on which an application was received from (i) Crewbawn area, Slane, and (ii) Woodfarm area, Slane, County Meath for a piped water supply on the group scheme, (b) the dates on which the areas were inspected by his Department's Engineer, and (c) what progress has been made to date.

An application for a group scheme was received from the Crewbawn area on 2nd August, 1962 and the scheme was inspected on 12th September, 1962.

The application from the Woodfarm area was received in the Department in August, 1962. When the Department's Inspector called to the area in November, 1962, the promoter was not available.

Progress in both cases was retarded by the illness of the Inspector dealing with group schemes in the area. Arrangements have been made to have further consultations with the promoters of the schemes next week.

Will the Minister say if in fact this type of application is being made all over the country and if there is an adequate number of engineers in the Department to deal with these matters?

As I have said, the delay in this case was due to the illness of the inspector dealing with the schemes. I do not know whether they are ill or not.

Apparently, there is only the one engineer to deal with the whole lot.

In that particular area. Arrangements have been made for further consultations next week.

Is it a fact that the engineer inspected both schemes at the same time and disappeared and that nothing further was heard until this question went out? Why not be honest about it?

He did not inspect both of them at the same time.

The two applications were in together, also.
