asked the Minister for Lands if his Department have any proceedings in hands for the acquisition of lands for forestry purposes at Cross Eighter and Oughter and Polna-brone, Menlough, Ballinasloe, and at Cloonkeenkerill, Gurteen, Ballinasloe, County Galway; and, if so, if arrangements are nearing completion.

The Forestry Division of my Department is dealing with a total of 413 acres which have been offered for afforestation purposes in Cross Eighter, Cross Oughter, Pollna-brone and Cloonkeenkerill townlands.

Agreement to purchase has been reached in respect of four areas with a total of 250 acres and title is in course of clearance. Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of three areas totalling 60 acres and a further three areas comprising 103 acres are at the preliminary stages of investigation.
