Vol. 200 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park Gates.

20.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance whether the gates of the Phoenix Park, Dublin are in the constant charge of members of the staff of the Phoenix Park; if not, why; and during what hours they are left unattended.

The entrance gates are normally in the charge of gatekeepers, who reside in the gate lodges, or relief gatekeepers. There are occasional periods when the time off of gatekeeper and relief gatekeeper coincides and a gate is unattended. It is not considered that the cost of providing attendance at these periods would be warranted.

Particulars of the hours during which the gates are left unattended are shown in a statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is proposed to provide cattle grids at the gates of the Phoenix Park; and, if so, if he will state their number and cost.

A proposal to provide cattle grids experimentally at one or two of the gates is being considered.
