Vol. 200 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ringsend (Dublin) School.

83.

asked the Minister for Education the date on which the proposal for the provision of a new national school at Ringsend, Dublin, was first made to his Department; the date on which sanction was given to the proposal to build such a school; the position of the site upon which it is proposed to build the school; whether it has been acquired; the total number of children for whom it is proposed to make provision in the school; the present state of preparation of the plans; the likely date on which it is believed building can commence; and the date on which the present school was first provided.

The replacement of the Ringsend boys and infants national schools was recommended by DPW in April, 1960, and the girls school in July, 1961. Sanction was given in July, 1961, to the proposal to build new schools.

The new schools will be erected on the site of the existing girls school. Sketch plans have been prepared and are at present under consideration. Accommodation will be provided for 656 pupils.

It is not possible to say at this stage when the work on the new schools will commence.

The existing girls school was built some 60 years ago and the boys and infants schools about 100 years ago.
