Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trial of Civil Actions.

91.

asked the Minister for Justice why the question of the continuance of trials of civil actions by jury is being investigated.

The existing right to jury trial in civil actions is a matter included in the terms of reference of the Committee on Court Practice and Procedure, which, with the approval of the Government, I established last year. Civil jury trial is of importance both as a legal and a social matter and it has a bearing on the cost of litigation. It has been the subject of differing views over the years and it is obviously a matter which should be examined by a committee of this kind.
