asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each local authority area for each year from 1954 to date (a) the number of local authority houses constructed, and (b) the yearly average number of workers employed on such houses.

(a) Statistics of the number of houses constructed by each local authority during each of the financial years from 1954-55 to 1959-60 are set out in the Appendices to the published Annual Reports of the Department for those years. The figures for the years 1960-61 and 1961-62, for which the reports are not yet published, are as follows :—

(b) Employment statistics have not been recorded in the form requested by the Deputy. Figures of overall employment on local authority housing schemes are set out in the Department's Annual Reports from 1955-56 with the exception of that for 1957-58. Particulars in this form for the years 1960-61 and 1961-62 were as follows:—
1960-61: The highest employment figure recorded was 1,757 at 31st May, 1960, and the lowest figure was 1,507 at 30th September, 1960. The average number of men employed during the year was 1,626.
1961-62: The highest employment figure was 2,156 at 31st March, 1962 and the lowest figure was 1,456 at 31st May, 1961. The average number of men employed during the year was 1,803.
