asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of every local authority for every year from the 1st April, 1952 to 1st April, 1962, inclusive (a) the rate in the pound, (b) the portion of the rate attributable to the provision of health services by local authorities, (c) the sums provided by the Oireachtas for such health services, and (d) the amounts provided out of the produce of the rate for scholarships.

NOTE:— The figures given at (b) are confined to financial years after the 1st April 1955 as the figures available in the Department for the Rate in the £ for Health Services for years prior to and subsequent to that date are not really comparable. The reason is that a number of health services which in years since the 1st April 1955 have been charged to the Health Services Account were in previous years charged to the Public Assistance Account. These services included the Dispensary Medical Service, Hospital and Specialist Services for the lower income group and services for shelter and maintenance in County Homes.

* In the year 1961-62 the State grants formerly paid to the County Councils and County Borough Corporations of Cork Dublin, Limerick and Waterford were paid instead to the new Unified Health Authorities set up in these areas under the Health Authorities Act, 1960. In that year only balances of outstanding grants were paid to these four Councils and County Borough Corporations.
NOTE:— Prior to the year 1955-56 portion of the State Grant under the Health `Services, Financia Provisions, Act, 1947 was also paid towards the Public Assistance Services.
