asked the Minister for Education the number of new vocational schools at present proposed to be built in the Dublin area; and at what date each of such schools is expected to be completed and ready for use.

I have sanctioned in principle the extending of Rathmines College of Commerce on its present site or the building of a new College elsewhere, but firm proposals are not yet to hand.

The City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee has recently acquired the Linenhall Premises in Yarnhall Street and conversion of the premises for use as a vocational school will take place in the present calendar year.

There are long-term proposals for providing day vocational schools for girls in Ballyfermot and Finglas West; and for boys and girls in Whitehall. A vocational school for Walkinstown is also envisaged. None of these proposals has yet reached a stage where a completion date could be forecast.

I hope the Minister will bear in mind that there is grave need for the extension of vocational education in other centres.

asked the Minister for Education the number of vocational schools which it is proposed to enlarge in the Dublin area; and at what date each of such extensions is expected to be completed and ready for use.

The following proposals for enlargement of vocational schools in the Dublin area have been submitted to my Department; estimated dates of completion are given.

Dublin City

Coláiste Mhuire le Tíos: for completion 1964.

Dublin County

Dundrum

1964

Kilternan

In addition, there are proposals for the rebuilding or extension of Ringsend Vocational School and for an extension to Rathcoole Vocational School, but these proposals have not yet reached a stage when completion dates could be forecast.

asked the Minister for Education the number of places in day courses in vocational schools in the Dublin area which remained unfilled during each of the school years 1959-60, 1961-62 and 1962-63.

No places remained unfilled in the boys' junior day courses in the Dublin vocational schools in the years in question. Places in the junior day courses for girls remained unfilled as follows:

School year 1959/60

98

School year 1960/61

80

School year 1961/62

50

School year 1962/63

asked the Minister for Education the number of additional places in day courses in vocational schools in the Dublin area which will be available for each of the school years 1963-64 and 1964-65.

The extension of the school in Kilternan, which may be completed in the school year 1963-64, and the extensions at Dundrum and Lucan, which may be completed in the school year 1964/65, should give additional accommodation for about 150 pupils in day courses. The new vocational school at Stillorgan, which may be completed in 1965, will give accommodation for about 140 pupils in day courses.
