asked the Minister for Finance the tax yield in a full financial year of (a) 1d. on a packet of twenty cigarettes, (b) 1d. on a gallon of petrol, (c) 1d. on a bottle of stout, (d) 1d. on a pint of beer, and (e) 1d. on a glass of whiskey.

Following is the information:—

(b) 1d per gallon of petrol

(c) 1d per half-pint bottle— i.e. 2d per pint—of beer (including stout) of average gravity

(e) 1d per glass of whiskey (at 30º u.p.)

360,000

NOTE: These figures are calculated by reference to the latest estimate of what clearances for home use of the commodities in question will be in the present financial year.
