asked the Minister for Education if he will give the latest available figures of the number per thousand of the population studying at universities in Ireland, and comparable figures for Northern Ireland, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, each of the member countries of the EEC, Spain and Portugal.

The information requested by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

2. With the exception of Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 13 the figures in the above table refer to 3rd level education, i.e., they include in addition to universities, higher technical schools, eacher training colleges, Theological schools, etc.

3. The figures also include foreign students attending universities etc. in the countries listed.
