Vol. 201 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Electricity Supplies.

19.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of rural householders in Kildare constituency who are still without a supply of electricity, and what action is proposed by the ESB to afford to unconnected householders concerned an opportunity of accepting a supply at the most favourable terms now available under the revised subsidy arrangements.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that out of approximately 10,000 households in Kildare some 2,800 are still without electricity.

The Board have planned to re-canvass the whole country with a view to orderly development and with the object of giving those houses still unconnected the best possible terms for supply in accordance with the recent legislation. It is not possible at this stage to state an order of priority for the re-canvass of individual areas, but to expedite re-canvass, special canvassers are being attached to each district office.

Persons interested in getting supply should keep in touch with their local ESB offices.
