Vol. 201 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monaghan Television Reception.

26.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that the Telefís Éireann television service in and around Monaghan is being rendered useless by interference from the Ulster Television transmitter at Strabane, County Tyrone, now transmitting on channels 8 and 9; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure that satisfactory reception will be available in and around Monaghan.

While I knew that there had been complaints of unsatisfactory reception of Telefís Éireann programmes in parts of Monaghan, I was not previously aware that interference was being caused by transmissions from another station in that area and I am informed that Radio Éireann has received only one complaint about such interference.

The Truskmore transmitter is operating on full power since 1st April and Radio Éireann has arranged to carry out a survey of reception conditions in Monaghan within the next few weeks. The problem of interference with the Telefís Éireann transmissions will be considered in conjunction with that survey and I shall communicate with the Deputy when I hear from Radio Éireann.

I am obliged to the Minister.
