Vol. 202 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation Increase.

60.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he proposes to increase the maximum weekly workmen's compensation of ninety shillings; and, if so, when.

Consideration of the Reports of the Commissions on Workmen's Compensation is proceeding as rapidly as possible, but I am not yet in a position to say when amending legislation will be introduced nor to indicate the provisions of such legislation.

Is the Minister aware there are certain circumstances at present in which the Department are paying benefits to supplement workmen's compensation because of the low level of the amounts paid, and does he not agree it is a matter of urgency that the Department should give consideration to it and bring in a regulation to increase the amount?

The matter is being dealt with as rapidly as possible.

Has the report yet been printed?

Has it been circulated to Deputies?

I think so.

I have not got it.

I shall let the Deputy have one.
