Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Water Supply Scheme.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of any serious problem affecting the commencement of the works at Leixlip for the North County Dublin regional water supply scheme; if serious difficulties which may require legislation have been encountered; and, if so, if he will indicate when appropriate legislation will be sponsored.

A re-assessment of the design of the scheme in the light of possible additional demands arising in the Dublin city area has been carried out by the council's consulting engineer and his report is at present being considered by the council. Certain legal points have also arisen in connection with the abstraction of water for the scheme, and are at present under consideration. I am not yet in a position to make any definite statement on the action which may be necessary.

These difficulties have naturally taken some time to consider, but they have not materially held up the planning of the scheme.
