Vol. 202 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Forestry Workers.

14.

(South Tipperary): asked the Minister for Lands the employment prospects amongst forestry workers in the Kilsheelan area, County Tipperary.

No reduction in the current staff employed at Kilsheelan Forest is in prospect at present. There was a small reduction a month ago.

Regarding the reduction of staff in the adjoining forest at Kilsheelan, would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether the decision to dismiss these men was taken at local level by officers of his Department, whether these officers have, in fact, that power, or was the decision arrived at by officers of the Department in Dublin?

It was taken in the ordinary course of administration.

At which level?

In the ordinary course of administration.

We are questioning that.

The Deputy should know what that means.

The Parliamentary Secretary does not know what it means; he is just dodging out of it.

Has the local officer power to dismiss?

Apparently he is supposed to have none.

Cannot the Parliamentary Secretary answer without the Minister helping him?

Apparently the local Fianna Fáil cumann thought head office was responsible.
