Vol. 202 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contributions to Harbour Developments.

15.

asked the Minister for Lands the amount of the local authority contribution to harbour developments at Killybegs, County Donegal, and Clogherhead, County Louth; and what percentage of the total expenditure these amounts represent.

Where a harbour outside the congested areas is being improved in the interest of the local fishing effort, the local authority responsible for the harbour is expected to contribute at least half the cost; that applies to the recent improvements at Clogherhead where the local contribution is about £6,750. The centres selected for development as major fishery harbours, including Killybegs, are intended to serve much wider interests and local authorities are not expected to contribute towards the cost of these construction works.

Did I hear the Parliamentary Secretary correctly, that he said in Clogherhead the contribution by the local authority was 50 per cent?

That is right.

So that explains the demand in Skerries for a similar 50 per cent?

It is 50 per cent in Clogherhead anyway.

That is a separate matter.
