Vol. 202 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Ross Bridge.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government what further procedures remain to be completed before tenders can be invited for New Ross Bridge, County Wexford; and when he expects that (a) tenders will be invited and (b) the bridge will be completed.

A Bridge Order providing for the construction of a new bridge at New Ross was executed on 2nd instant and copies have been sent to the two county councils concerned. Wexford County Council, the executing authority, has been requested to submit plans for the new bridge. When these have been approved following consultation with a number of interested bodies, the way will be clear for invitation of tenders. I am not at present in a position to say how long the detailed planning of the project will take and what the contract period will be.

Could the Minister say who would be the interested bodies?

People concerned with shipping and boating.

Anybody with representations to make?

Not necessarily all, but there would be some who would have some interest.
